Today I'm sharing a poem for our "Quote Books".


                            I Rescued A Human Today

    Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor
peering apprehensively into the kennels.
I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid.

As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident
I had in the back of my cage.
I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today.
Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy
and I didn't want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card,
I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past.
I only have the future to look forward to
and want to make a difference in someone's life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me.
I shoved my shoulder and side of my head
up against the bars to comfort her.
Gentle fingertips caressed my neck;
she was desperate for companionship.

A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw
to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright
that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could
to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor.
So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors.
So many more to be saved.
At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Look How Hard My Daughter's Girl Scout Group Worked!!

If you've read past posts then you might know that my daughter is working on her Girl Scouts Bronze Award. This past week's meeting the Jr. girls (and my son) worked on making pages to go into 6x6 albums to be given to a local dog rescue. The girls aren't done yet but thought today I would show you how hard they worked on the pages this week. I think the pages all came out great so far! The group had a great time and it was even an intro to scrapbooking for some. So, what do you think?

Stella's Hope Fundraiser ~ Help Them Get Much Needed Funds!

Starting today and for the whole month of April I am having a fundraiser on my website. It is for an amazing Dog Rescue called Stella's Hope! The fundraiser is through my website only (since I am an Independent Consultant). It is not a company (Close To My Heart) fundraiser. Quote Book ~ Poem To Add To Your Book ~ Just My Dog!

I thought I would do something a little different...I usually do the quotes today to add to your quote book...but I decided today to do a poem instead.

Just My Dog 

He's just my dog. He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the winds.

He has told me more than a thousand times over that I am his reason for being -- by the way he rests against my leg, by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile, by the way he shows his hurt when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me).

When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive.

When I am angry he clowns to make me smile.

When I am happy, he is joy unbounded.

When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another person. With him, I am all powerful.

He has taught me the meaning of devotion is loyalty itself. With him, I know the secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things.

He has promised to wait for me ... whenever ... wherever ... in case I need him, and I expect I will, as I always have.

I thought I would do something a little different...I usually do the quotes today to add to your quote book...but I decided today to do a poem instead.

Every Dog

A dog is made
of a head and tail
and paws and ears and itches
and when he sleeps
upon your bed
he snuggles close and twitches
he dreams dog dreams
of cats and bones
and gently runs in place
and when he wakes
he yawns and wags
and washes off your face

I thought I would share this poem today since I am going to help my daughter and her Girl Scout troop make a few 6x6 albums for a local rescue...so they can use them to share their "Happy Tails" stories with people looking to adopt.
